Tuesday, August 18

New cycle begins today. Start finding training partners, talking with folks to ensure a time to have someone to lift with - even if your weights are different having someone there to keep you on it will make a big difference this cycle.  We will also need to be smart about using the space - Biggest potential issues are:
Kids Class - Tuesday/Thursday 4-5pm in Barbell Club area
Barbell Club - Monday/Wednesday @ 6:30-7:30p, Saturday's 9am
If possible try to plan around these and do not put your gear and/or congregate in that side area if/when those things are going on (this has become a bigger issue as of late).

Use time wisely today...extra work will take some time, you may think about starting there instead of class (especially 5:30a) -- Remember if you plan on coming in before the 4:30pm class that the Kids are going on in the extra area until 5pm.

0) With light KBs on the side, hold a PVC overhead attached by bands. Keep the leash short and work on settling into a pause OHS and finding stability - ( Semi-video - Though this guy has very bad ribs) Work for 3-5sets, holds should be taxing but not killer and no longer than 20-30s in the bottom.

1) E2MOM10:
2 Pause OHS (3-5s in bottom) @ 70% of Snatch (Snatch Grip, no moving in for stability)

2) E2MOM14:
2 Position Snatch - 2" off Floor (start from floor, pick up to 2", pause 2-3s and complete Snatch) + Below Knee (pause for 2-3s at position) -- 70% Start weight, build to no heavier than 85%

3) E2MOM14:
2 Position Clean + Jerk - Hi-Hang + Above Knee - Begin @ 70% and build to no heavier than 85%

4) Optional Conditioning if you miss-time the class workout:
3 RFT:
400m Row
21 Burpees
15 Power Snatch @ 75/55

Grid Athletes Wednesday Programming below --- ***if you would like to do more this must be done before 2pm***:

1) EMOM15:
Full Snatch - First 5 minutes you must hold the catch in the squat for at least a 3 count before standing up. Begin around 50-60% and build each minute. No more than 90% until the final 2 minutes, no more than 2 misses.

2) E2MOM14 - Front Squat:
Set 1 - 4 @ 70%
Set 2 - 3 @ 75%
Set 3 - 3 @ 80%
Set 4 - 2 @ 85%
Set 5 - 1 @ 90%
Set 6 - 1 @ 90% +
Set 7 - 1 @ 90% +
*For sets 6 & 7 base this off form and mechanics - if you are able to keep a good core position and not fold, move up...if not stay lighter and try to maintain a better core position at 90%*

3) 2 x Tabata AirDyne - 8 minutes, max calories. Guys Watts above 750, ladies watts above 400.
rest 5 minutes
2 x Tabata AirDyne - Watts move to 650/350.

  2. I'm gonna let Jade the birthday girl explain what happened during our lifting session.

Needless to say, it was quite taxing and I was crying on the inside the entire time.

    1. Ummm.... so Jade aka "the idiot of the day" thought part 2 and part 3 was to be done as an EMOM. Therefore after a nicely paced part 1 K$ and I jumped in to do the class WOD (completed with the famous bday weight vest of course). Then STRUGGLED our way through the rest of the extra work while complaining that we wished it was an E2MOM like th first part....
To those of you completing the extra work this evening I don't recommend this, tears were shed.
To K$....your welcome!! Just trying to make you better!

  3. I liked the Oly lifting, but it was hard and tiring! Excited to do this cycle!

    0) definitely good stability work!

    1) Done at 130#- felt good. Tried really hard to be in good ribs in position

    2) Done all at 130# - overall good. I thought that the just below knee was tricky...which I'm sure means that is something to work on

    3) 4 at 150# 3 at 160#. Ben Smithed them...i like that doing that makes the jerk feel lighter

I then joined class for some exciting step ups... and worked on my #gridspeed in the workout!

  5. Today was great.

Did class first. The 20 step ups were brutal.only did 85,95,105 because we had a group of 3.

WOD: unbroken and finished in 2:09
    Def taxing on the grip!

    Extra work :
    0. Holy seizure with the green KB.. Moved to the pink KB and dominated by the last one! Left me a little wobbly on the next part!
    1. OHS 95 lbs (yes sunshine and I did 1 extra set ... As cash says #letmelive

    2. Snatches were great ! 95lbs and felt good. I am really liking the focusing on form!

    3. Clean and jerks!!!! 125 then moved up to 135! First jerk was a little rough but felt pretty solid

    Cool down 500 m row :)

    Now, Chow time

Great job everyone! Thanks sunshine for putting up with me ! Best workout partner ever (I don't care what other people say)

  6. A day full of barbell work... Now that's what I'm talking about!

The back rack step ups were tough, toasted my back and got me breathing hard. Hit 85, 95, 105 before running out of time. Kenz and I got to work with Karly on these tonight and although she doesn't follow the blog, I think her effort on those is worth calling out. She pushed hard!

The workout was a grip killer. And since I have this problem with hook gripping (aka not doing it :/ ) I kinda struggled with it more than I should have. Finished in 4:03. Yikes.

After that, got to have some fun with a PVC pipe and KB OHS. The first sets were miserable but the last two started to get much better. After my wrist got warmed up, the actual OHS felt awesome. Must have been that extra set :)

Snatches were better than I expected... Was pretty skeptical about going right into those positions from the ground but thanks to Jeff and Kenz I gave it a shot and they actually felt ok. Did those at 85.

Did the clean and jerks at 120, then 125. These felt pretty solid as well, but need to spend some time focusing on my catch position in the split jerk.

Great Tuesday overall! Looking forward to the second day of grid tomorrow! :)

  7. Had to wait til past Cash's bed time today to get it in with JOHNNYYYY BOOYYYYY - but glad I did, gym had settled down, vibe and people were great - Was able to mentally make Sunshine a better athlete through positivity, sarcasm and motivation.

    Morning:
    2min, 90s, 1min, 30s Ski-Erg Max Calories, rest 5 minutes holding in a squat or handstand, then repeat. Total Cals = 192
    EMOM12:
    Odd: HS Hold
    Even: Ankle Mobility

    Evening - Extra:
0 - Green KBs - Pretty rough to start but dialed them in around round 3-4.

    1. OHS @ 180 - Man these were super rough...my body kept reacting like it was the KBs and really struggled - no fails fortunately, but not great positioning.

    2. Snatches @ 180 - Only missed one, most felt pretty solid though shoulders again were mis-firing from time to time.

    3. C&J - Felt solid here, working on the Jerks, playing around with some different Dip & Drive options....not bad but a work in progress. 225 x 2, 240 x 3, 255 x 2.

    Good Day!

  11. Worked with Bulldog (Ryan ... Maria came up with the nickname, good work girly) and Baby Gap on 0-3

    0) Well, didn't do this as planned... reading is hard. Sorry, read it wrong and only did 5 TOTAL with the pauses in the bottom with the pink kettlebells.

    1) OHS at 105, trying to get more comfortable overhead.

    2) Snatches: 105 and stayed there. Really focused on dropping faster under the bar... and I am going to have to get a PVC held in front of me. K Jones witnessed many bunny hops forward...ugh

    3) Clean and Jerk: 135 and stayed there, once again worked on dropping under the bar faster, not jumping forward and faster feet on the jerk.

    4) Did the the Endurance: 3rds; 400 row, 21 burpees, 15 PS @ 55 with Baby Gap. I seriously need someone to sweep my feet out from under me to get faster to the ground....ugh burpees.

  12. 1) OHS- 175. Felt pretty good, but shoulders are still a bit taxed from Sunday.
    2) Snatches- worked up to 205 and felt good, tried 220 the last set and failed.
    3) C & J- worked up to 265. All makes, no endurance for me.....BB was enough

  14. Blog game has been weak lately, need to step that shit up. Though I think my blog presence is at an all time high, solely due to the recent background updates.

OHS-185 felt real smooth. Probably should have gone up a bit, but good to get back into it with this weight.
Snatch-Started at 185 and worked up to 205. Made my lifts, back felt good.
C+J-Started really light, first time doing them in a long long time. 185-235 for these and they felt really good.

Very little back pain, all the time and effort is paying off. FINALLY.

Endurance was fun. 12:20-Should have done all snatched unbroken.

Good to be on the road back to recovery.

  15. Forgot to post this yesterday...
1.OHS at 90#. Felt pretty easy.
    2. Snatches at 90- 100#. Felt pretty good. I really like this focusing on form portion and pausing. The 2 in off the ground was harder for me than the below the knee
    3. Clean and jerks at 115#. Jerks felt great. Cleans felt really good at first but my legs got tired pretty quickly. Need to keep #squatting
    more often!
    4. Did the optional conditioning but since I was pressed for time I only did the rowing and burpees.
